£72m Man United man has no Old Trafford future after public Instagram swipe

0 0

Manchester United have once again been vindicated in their decision to move Rasmus Hojlund on from Old Trafford earlier this summer.

The club acted decisively after securing Benjamin Sesko from RB Leipzig, signalling a clear change of direction in attack.

Hojlund subsequently joined Napoli on a season-long loan, with an obligation to buy triggered if the Italian side qualify for the Champions League in the 2026–27 season.

The Denmark international was part of the Napoli squad that defeated Bologna 2-0 to win the Supercoppa Italiana on Sunday night.

The striker took to Instagram to celebrate his victory but seemingly fired shots at United.

He posted pictures of the trophy and wrote: “What a great decision looks like.”

Hojlund has played 19 games in all competitions for Napoli this term, but has scored only seven goals and recorded three assists.

Still, this return will give him much-needed confidence after a difficult spell at Old Trafford.

But is he really entitled to take shots at a club he still officially belongs to?

If one cup win is enough to induce amnesia over an underwhelming two-year stint at the highest level, then perhaps that level was never truly his.

Hojlund featured in 95 games for the Red Devils but netted only 26 goals after his £72 million move from Atalanta in 2023.

For much of that period, he was physically dominated by Premier League defenders week after week.

His touch often deserted him, and he regularly looked like a striker still learning the basics rather than leading the line.

Let’s not forget that he was adamant about staying at Old Trafford but INEOS wanted him gone.

In truth, his social media output has generated more impact than his performances ever did in a United shirt.

Playing for Manchester United demands mental steel, resilience and discipline, not just raw potential.

Had Hojlund truly been elite, he would have helped drag the club forward during its lowest moments.

He is a decent striker, but United have learned the hard way that decent is simply not enough at Old Trafford.
