Woking 1-2 Scunthorpe United

Enterprise National League

Laithwaite Community Stadium

20th December 2025

Woking hoped to keep their impressive unbeaten run going with the visit of 6th placed Scunthorpe United to the Laithwaite Community Stadium.

As expected, Neal Ardley named an unchanged side to the one that beat Carlisle at Brunton Park, whilst Andy Butler was able to welcome back four injured players to his starting lineup in the form of Danny Whitehall, Joe Rowley, Ty Sellars-Fleming and Tyler Denton.

After a low key start, a piece of individual brilliance from Josh Kelly nearly opened the scoring. He took the ball down, turned his man and unleashed a superb hit which smashed the bar and went behind for a goal kick.

Moments after Drewe lined up with Beautyman but the midfielder’s header went wide of the target, Scunthorpe took the lead. Good play down the right hand side saw Zain Westbrooke tee up Danny Whitehall, who headed out of the reach of Jaaskelainen and into the back of the net.

Half Time: Woking 0-1 Scunthorpe United

When Tyrell Sellars-Fleming was played in behind the Woking defence, he attempted to round the onrushing Will Jaaskelainen and make it two, but went to ground far too easily and was booked for diving.

It was then the visitors’ chance to hit the crossbar when Cal Roberts darted inside and curled an effort towards goal, but the ball pinged the woodwork and went over.

They had their second goal with just under twenty minutes to go when Roberts played a superb through ball on the half volley to Declan Howe, who raced onto it and showed great composure to lash the ball into the top corner past a hapless Jaaskelainen.

With the three points looking secure for the Iron, they were given a scare with two minutes of normal time left. The dangerous Josh Osude managed to find space inside the area, firing low inside the near post to give the home crowd hope.

It wasn’t to be, however, as Scunthorpe became the first team to beat the Cards in eleven games.
