Hall Of Famer Not Buying Bills’ Super Bowl Chances After Beating Patriots

The Buffalo Bills are riding high after Sunday’s comeback win over the New England Patriots, but a Hall of Fame wide receiver pumped the brakes on their Super Bowl aspirations.

Buffalo joins New England as one of the AFC’s top contenders after keeping the AFC East up for grabs with a 35-31 victory. While the cards could align for the Bills’ first Super Bowl title in franchise history, Cris Carter made the case against them on Monday’s “Up & Adams.”

“Defensively, they’re not a championship team,” Carter said of the Bills. “They don’t have a No. 1 receiver, so we think they’re going to be able to run the ball, or Josh Allen just ad-libs to be able to make this happen?”

Other AFC happenings have the Bills surfacing as a popular pick to win their first conference title since 1993. The Kansas City Chiefs, who have eliminated Buffalo in four of the last five postseasons, will miss the playoffs for the first time in Patrick Mahomes’ career.

Carter warned that avoiding Kansas City doesn’t give Buffalo a clear path to the Super Bowl.

“You’ve been seeing these Bills for the last few years, but this is the worst Buffalo team in the last three years,” Carter claimed. “And just because those other guys are out of the playoffs doesn’t mean Super Bowl. Like, we keep adding one plus one equals two. Sometimes, in the NFL, it doesn’t. Sometimes one plus one equals zero.”

The Patriots still lead the division despite Sunday’s loss, so the Bills may not get any home playoff games as a wild-card team. Furthermore, Carter questioned the team’s talent behind superstar quarterback Josh Allen.

“They have a great player, but they don’t have a great unit,” Carter said. “Special teams is not great. Their offense is not a great unit. Their defense is not a great unit. So now, how can they get the right matchups in the playoffs? And they’re going to have to do it on the road.”

Carter believes the Bills are again “one year away” from making a title run. The Minnesota Vikings icon said they still need a premier wide receiver and better health on defense.

“Can they go to the playoffs? Are they a tough out? Yes,” Carter told host Kay Adams. “But you said, ‘Are they gonna win the Super Bowl?’ No.”
