Archie Gray wants to avoid one perception ahead of long-term Tottenham future
A report has shed light on what Archie Gray sees as his best position long-term at Tottenham and what Thomas Frank has done to prepare him for that role.
Gray made 46 appearances in his debut season at Tottenham Hotspur, mainly due to the Lilywhites’ injury issues, and he played almost exclusively in the backline.
However, this season, the teenager has been used primarily as a midfielder, and he is now starting to stamp his authority on matches.
Thomas Frank has admitted that he loves Gray’s attributes in midfield, and it has now been revealed what the teenager thinks about the change of position.
Archie Gray sees himself as a number six or number eight at Tottenham
The Sun now revealed that the 19-year-old is the kind of character who would play any position he is asked to by the manager.
However, he sees himself playing in midfield over the long-term, with the youngster wanting to be a number six or a number eight.
It is explained that despite his versatility, Gray does not want to be pigeon-holed as a Jack of all trades, and that he only ever played in midfield throughout his time in the Leeds academy.
The outlet claims that while Ange Postecoglou rated Gray highly and felt he would evolve into a top midfielder, the Australian did not think he was ready to play in the middle of the park last season.
Thomas Frank’s decision has helped Gray adapt to midfield role
The Sun claim that Frank has had Gray training as a midfielder right from the start of pre-season.
In fact, it is revealed that the Dane has brought in individual development coach Cameron Campbell to work closely with the 19-year-old and to prepare him for the demands of the midfield role.
The one-on-one focus is thought to have been beneficial to Gray’s game, while the youngster is also said to have learned a lot from senior pros like Rodrigo Bentancur and Joao Palhinha.
