Quinn Hughes To Make Wild Debut vs. Bruins
The Minnesota Wild pulled off a blockbuster move for star defenseman Quinn Hughes on Friday.
Minnesota acquired the Vancouver Canucks captain for forwards Marco Rossi and Liam Ohgren, defenseman Zeev Buium, and a first-round pick in the 2026 NHL Draft.
It was a massive move, and Hughes is now expected to make his Wild debut on Sunday at home against the Boston Bruins, according to Michael Russo of The Athletic.
Minnesota’s move to acquire Hughes shows the Wild are going all-in, which general manager Bill Guerin hinted at after signing Kirill Kaprizov to an extension this offseason.
“That’s the idea, it doesn’t stop here,” Guerin said after signing Kaprizov. “We want to win. We want to do the things that you have to do in order to win — somewhere down the line, to start to add pieces or to change where necessary.
“But we haven’t been able to be in the game because of our cap situation, but now that’s in the past, and we have good flexibility with our cap situation now.”
Hughes won the Norris Trophy as the top defenseman in 2024. The 26-year-old is under contract through the 2026-27 NHL season.
So far, Hughes has recorded two goals and 21 assists for 23 points in 26 games with the Canucks. Hughes adds some much-needed offense to the Wild’s blue line, and the Bruins will get the first look at the American on Minnesota.
As for the Bruins, Boston concludes its three-game road trip on Sunday against Minnesota. The Bruins have won the first two games of the road trip and are on a four-game winning streak.
Boston is 19-13-0 and in second place in the Atlantic Division.
