ROCCO FRIEL was back where it all began as he visited our latest Tickets for Schools guests.
Pupils, parents and staff from Spittal Primary School in Rutherglen will attend the match with Dunfermline Athletic this weekend – and cheer on one of their own.
The on-loan Spiders star spent his formative football years kicking a ball around the grass pitch that the building now stands on.
Growing up a stone’s throw away from the primary school he moved into the new building when it opened in 2013 – and he was just an infant.
Rocco said: “It’s a bit strange being back in my old school – I was one of the first in this building when it opened in 2013 and I was in P2.
“Some of the staff are still here and it’s been really nice to see them again – some of the kids knew my younger brother Harris too.
“I remember the playground and the football pitch very well. I used to climb in and spend my spare time practising with my dad before they built the new building.
“I hope the pupils all enjoy the match and I hope our performance is as good as their questions!”
Rocco handed out scarves and autographs and took part in a Q&A session where he was quizzed on life as a professional footballer in London and Glasgow.
He was asked about his goal against St Johnstone, his boots and even his pre-match meal – chicken and rice, for anyone wondering.
Queen’s Park head of commercial Kieran Koszary added: “I’d like to thank Rocco for taking the time out to visit Spittal Primary School – it’s very much appreciated as it is with all the players who give their time to meet our young supporters.
“We look forward to welcoming them to the game on Saturday and hope they have a fantastic day at The city Stadium.
“Tickets for Schools continues to go from strength to strength and I am delighted to end the year on a high with Spittal Primary and various other partner schools entering our Christmas Card competition with Howden.”
