New York Giants Kicker Explains Viral ‘Monday Night Football’ Blunder
Monday night's game against the New England Patriots was one to forget for the New York Giants. The Giants trailed 30-7 at halftime, and appeared to be overmatched from the game's opening kickoff.
New England improved to a league-best 11-2 record on the season, while the Giants fell to 2-11 - just one game behind the Tennessee Titans for the league's worst record.
The Giants were plagued by several errors during Monday's loss, but one moment in particular seemed to embody the difficult season the team has endured.
Koo's Strange Field Goal Attempt Goes Viral
In the second quarter, Younghoe Koo attempted to kick a 47-yard field goal. While running up to the ball, Koo's foot went directly into the turf - missing the ball entirely. Holder Jamie Gillan was forced to take the ball and run with it, and was sacked several yards behind the play for a turnover on downs.

Fans, players and even the ESPN commentary duo of Joe Buck and Troy Aikman were puzzled by the botched field goal attempt. After the game, Koo attempted to explain what went wrong on the play.
"I was approaching the ball and, cold weather, the ball kind of slipped out at the bottom so it was moving," the kicker said, according to the New York Post. "I wasn't able to kick through the ball. The ball was moving when I was driving to it, so I just pulled up on it."
Koo said that Gillan "did a good job of catching [the ball] and putting it back," but said that it was too late to try to kick the ball with the defense rushing.

What's Next for New York's Kicker?
The good news for Koo is that the broken play will not count as an official field goal attempt. He remains a perfect 4-for-4 on the season on field goals, as well as 8-of-9 on extra points. The Giants signed Koo in September to replace the injured Graham Gano.
The former Atlanta Falcons kicker has appeared in four games this season, as the Giants look to finish the year on a positive note. The team will have a late bye week next week, and they'll return to action on December 14 for a home game against the Washington Commanders.
After playing Washington, New York will wrap up the 2025 season with games against the Minnesota Vikings, Las Vegas Raiders and Dallas Cowboys. The Giants haven't won since a Week 6 victory over the rival Philadelphia Eagles, and are set to be one of the league's worst teams for yet another season.
