Amorim breaks silence on Fernandes' hamstring scare after thrilling win over Palace

0 11

Manchester United claimed a vital three points at Selhurst Park with a thrilling 2-1 comeback win over Crystal Palace in the Premier League today.

Jean-Philippe Mateta had given Palace the lead in the first half, slotting home a penalty after a clumsy foul from Leny Yoro.

Joshua Zirkzee and Mason Mount emerged as the unlikely heroes, inspiring United to pull off a stunning turnaround after the break.

Bruno Fernandes orchestrated much of United’s revival, though he was seen clutching his hamstring in the dying minutes.

It was a worrying sight for the United supporters but manager Ruben Amorim has now cleared the air.

Amorim said after the game (via Football on TNT Sports): “No it was a kick. I was shouting at him because he needs to talk with the bench but he said it was a kick so everything is okay.

The Portuguese head coach has been adamant about using Fernandes in the midfield pivot.

Despite being positioned deeper and tasked with defensive responsibilities, Fernandes produced two assists today.

He floated in the free-kick at the near post for Zirkzee, who showed sublime skills to control the ball before finding the net.

Fernandes then demonstrated his footballing intelligence by taking another free-kick at lightning speed, catching Palace off guard.

He laid it off for Mount, who was momentarily surprised by the quickness but managed to slot the ball past Dean Henderson.

With two assists today, Fernandes moved into fourth place on United’s all-time Premier League assists list.

He surpassed the legendary Paul Scholes and now sits behind only Ryan Giggs, Wayne Rooney, and David Beckham.

It is a huge relief for the Red Devils that Fernandes emerged unscathed, as he remains the true heartbeat of the squad.
