Thomas Frank takes aim at fake Tottenham fans after Guglielmo Vicario treatment

0 2

Guglielmo Vicario made a dreadful mistake which ultimately went on to cost Tottenham Hotspur dearly against Fulham, but Thomas Frank has leaped to the defence of his goalkeeper.

Tottenham Hotspur have suffered another Premier League defeat and it is the result of two goals which were conceded in the opening six minutes against Fulham.

The opening strike was scored in a way which is all too familiar for teams facing Spurs. Nobody closed down Kenny Tete’s strike, in a theme which was apparent during the Champions League tie with PSG.

However, it was Fulham’s second goal which had Tottenham supporters enraged, as Guglielmo Vicario gave away the ball and allowed Harry Wilson to fire into an open net.

Thomas Frank disowns Tottenham supporters for their reactions to Guglielmo Vicario

Vicario has already faced the wrath of Spurs fans this season, with many calling for him to be dropped in favour of Antonin Kinsky. These claims were silenced after the Czechian’s display against Newcastle in the Carabao Cup.

Despite this, the Italian is back in hot water after his error against Fulham, but he has the support of his manager nonetheless.

Thomas Frank has blasted those in the stands who chose to boo Vicario throughout the match. In fact, he has made a shocking claim that they are not real supporters of the club.

Frank told Sky Sports: “When you’re down 2-0 after six minutes, there is a mountain to climb. When you’re in a bad spell, everything seems to go against you as well – the first was a deflected shot, the second is a mistake from Vic [Guglielmo Vicario].

“I didn’t like that our fans booed at him straight after and a few times after that. They can’t be true Tottenham fans because everyone supports each other when you’re on the pitch and we do everything we can to perform. I’m fine with them booing after the match, no problem, but not during. That is unacceptable in my opinion.

“After that, we rushed the first half in many ways. We wanted to come back into the game but couldn’t do it in the first half, but we got much better in the second half. We got a bit of momentum, created more chances and opportunities, but couldn’t get the second goal.

“It was an emotional performance in the second half, and I think that’s quite normal. We know that we badly want to win at home, so when it’s not going your way, it is hard. That’s why you need to stick to the plan, be cool and not stress. It is easier said than done.”

Frank is out of line to disrespect Spurs fans

Emotions can get the better of supporters and it is understandable that Frank would want to protect Vicario. After all, no player deserves to be continuously booed during a match for making an honest mistake.

However, Frank went further than condemning the actions of the Tottenham fans who lost their cool. His comments are an insult to those who are paying some of the most expensive ticket prices in England to watch utter dross every week.

Frank has to understand that Tottenham’s shocking performances are his responsibility and he has played a part in creating a toxic atmosphere amongst the club’s fanbase. Of course he will defend his own player, but condescending words after another defeat will not help his cause at Spurs.
