Jonathan Kuminga Trade Buzz Growing Louder; Should Celtics Be Listening?
The Boston Celtics have reason to be monitoring the Jonathan Kuminga situation in Golden State. Boston has a couple of trade-able assets in Anfernee Simons and Sam Hauser that could be used in a deal for Kuminga, who, according to Yahoo Sport’s Kevin O’Connor, looks on the verge of being traded by the Warriors.
O’Connor pointed out that Kuminga’s recent injury status is bordering on a disinterest to play for the Warriors.
Kuminga and the Warriors have a very complicated history together. Kuminga has often been adamant that he deserves a larger role within Golden State’s game plan, and head coach Steve Kerr has often pushed against that concept.
As the Celtics continue to navigate the 2025-26 season with Jayson Tatum sidelined by an Achilles injury, Kuminga might provide the need for another hyper-athletic wing to complement Jaylen Brown and stabilize the depth chart from a talent standpoint.
Kuminga’s contract situation (club option for next season) positions him as a low-risk, high-reward addition for the Celts. He is eligible for deals starting January 15, which means Boston could still pull off a deal before the February 5 NBA trade deadline. Packages centered around Anfernee Simons’ expiring $27.6 million contract could be a pathway to a successful trade, although it would likely have to be a three-team trade.
