Patriots’ Drake Maye Responds To Brian Burns’ Criticism Of His QB Play
It’s pretty much impossible to get under Drake Maye’s skin, especially if you’re trying to do so through the media. The New England Patriots quarterback has proved multiple times this year that his humility basically kills any hate or criticism thrown his way in the press.
The most recent example came on Wednesday. With a Patriots-New York Giants matchup looming in Week 13, Giants defensive stud Brian Burns criticized Maye to reporters in an unexpected way, basically saying that Maye sometimes struggles to feel the rush because he is “too poised” and/or too focused on looking downfield.
“He does seem to be poised, maybe a little bit too poised,” Burns said of Maye. “At times, he’s so caught up in making the right play or getting so caught up in his routes downfield, he just forgets about somewhat of who’s rushing him.”
Maye was asked about the Burns comments later on Wednesday while fielding questions from the media, and his response was perfect.
“Shoot, I’m not 100 percent [sure] what that really means,” Maye said. “I try to keep my eyes down the field while feeling pressure, I think that’s part of playing the position… I know he’s a great player, and he’s had a great year, so (I’ll) just try to have feel of where he’s at.”
