Joe Mazzulla Raves About Derrick White After Celtics Beat Pistons

The Boston Celtics celebrated a significant victory on Wednesday night, edging out the Pistons with a score of 117-114. While early-season NBA wins may not seem particularly crucial, it’s worth noting that Detroit was riding a 13-game winning streak leading up to this contest.

It was great to see the Celtics pick up the win and end the Pistons’ winning streak. Boston couldn’t have gotten the win without the outstanding play from guard Derrick White.

White finished the game with 27 points, with 25 of those coming in the second half, including six three-pointers. Head coach Joe Mazzulla was pleased to see his veteran guard find his rhythm.

“Whenever he’s not playing well, I kind of get excited because I know when he comes out of it, the other side of that is so much better,” Mazzulla said on Wednesday, via WEEI’s Justin Turpin. “That’s just the trust that I have in him as a player, and that’ll never waver.”

Mazzulla wasn’t the only head coach to commend White. Pistons head coach J.B. Bickerstaff also expressed his admiration for White’s performance.

“He’s a champion for a reason,” Bickerstaff said. “And in games like this, guys like that understand what they need to do to help their team win. And he did it.”
