Weekend preview: Bassett host Whitchurch in top of table clash

Royal Wootton Bassett Town host Whitchurch on Sunday in what promises to be an exciting encounter between two of the sides in the mix for the South West Regional Women's Football League Division One North title (Gerard Buxton Sports Ground, 2pm kick off). Whitchurch claimed the Gloucestershire County Women's League title last season and have made an excellent start to life in tier six as they find themselves top. In what is proving a wide open title race, they sit along with Bassett, Bitton, Corsham Town and Mangotsfield United, in the mix at the summit of the table. It's set to be a big fixture for both sides as they look to secure victory to enhance their title chances and weaken those of their opponents. Do come along to cheer Bassett on! Prior to that on Saturday the Men's First Team visit Cinderford Town in the Hellenic League Premier Division (3pm kick off). Jonny Aitkenhead's side are making their second visit to the Causeway Ground this season after falling to defeat on penalties following a thrilling 3-3 FA Vase draw in August. That result meant Bassett are unbeaten inside 90 minutes in their last three visits to face the Foresters. And they'll be hoping to record a positive result against opponents who are winless in their last five league games. Meanwhile the Development team face a stern test as they host Wiltshire League Premier Division leaders Shrewton United (Gerard Buxton Sports Ground AGP, 2pm kick off). Shrewton lost for the first time in sixteen league games last weekend, with their impressive run having seen them edge Mark Simpkins' side 3-2 back in September.
