Drake Maye’s ‘Insane Touch’ Draws Praise After Patriots-Bengals
New England Patriots quarterback Drake Maye appears to have it all. He can beat you with his legs, and from a passing standpoint, he is both accurate and a deep threat. Another element of Maye’s passing game recently highlighted by Patriots wideout Stefon Diggs is Maye’s phenomenal touch.
Diggs told the media that he was able to play through a broken finger because Maye delivers the football with a soft touch. Indeed, the Patriots quarterback never seems to put more zip on the ball than is needed, which might make his passes more catchable and receiver-friendly.
Well, Maye’s feathery touch has officially gained another fan, with Klutch Sports scout Kyron Samuels expressing pure joy on Sunday over Maye’s third-quarter completion to DeMario Douglas in the Patriots’ win over the Cincinnati Bengals.
Samuel wasn’t exaggerating. It was a very impressive throw from Maye. Dropping back into Cincy’s endzone, he delivered a 40-plus yard strike to Douglas that landed perfectly where three patrolling members of the Bengals’ secondary could not reach it.
Maye currently holds a passer rating of 110.7 with 3,130 yards, 21 touchdowns and six interceptions in 12 games this season for the Patriots, who own the NFL’s best record at 10-2.
Just behind the Patriots in the overall NFL standings are the Los Angeles Rams, who are led by quarterback Matthew Stafford and his absurd 30-to-2 touchdown/interception ratio.
Stafford has emerged as the NFL MVP front-runner through Week 12, a title that was bestowed upon Maye over the last few weeks.
Maye and the Patriots will host the New York Giants on Monday Night Football on December 1. They will then enter a bye week before hosting the Buffalo Bills on December 14.
