Amorim finally hints at first-team debuts for two academy stars, fans left buzzing

0 1

Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim has finally revealed his verdict on two academy stars.

United are staring at a selection crisis in December and January, with Bryan Mbeumo, Amad Diallo and Noussair Mazraoui all set to disappear for Africa Cup of Nations duty (AFCON).

Losing all three at once is a tactical nightmare for Amorim, given how integral they are to his 3-4-3 system.

The United head coach admitted that his team will “struggle” but named two youngsters he believes are ready to rise to the occasion.

He said (via ManUtd.com): “It will be hard for us, but we have different baggage to deal with that. Guys like Jack Fletcher, Shea [Lacey], they can step up.

“We can send, at the same time, a message to everyone here in the Academy that this is the future.

“But we are going to struggle, and we have to be prepared for that.”

A huge vote of confidence

Mbeumo and Diallo have developed into one of the most dangerous right-sided duos in the Premier League this season.

Their understanding has sharpened with every match, combining relentless work rate with explosive attacking output.

They have also compensated for the lack of threat on the opposite flank, with Diogo Dalot struggling to make an impact at left wing-back.

Their imminent absence is a big setback and could derail United’s momentum.

Amorim has swung the door wide open for Shea Lacey and Jack Fletcher to join the first-team battle.

Lacey, a natural right winger, could seamlessly slot into the right-sided number 10 role with his flair and sharp movement.

The 18-year-old has been part of several first-team training sessions and has already blown away the staff with his creativity.

Fletcher is a central midfielder by trade but has shown versatility by operating in the left-back role for the Under-21s this season.

He was named in the matchday squad when United made a trip to Tottenham Hotspur before the November international break.

There is no doubt that both Lacey and Fletcher possess immense talent, but stepping into Premier League football is an entirely different challenge.

They have to be ready not just physically but also mentally.

It remains to be seen whether Carrington still has the cutting edge it was once so proudly known for.
