Bruins Place Charlie McAvoy On IR, Activate Elias Lindholm

The Boston Bruins made a roster move ahead of their road game against the San Jose Sharks on Sunday.

Boston activated forward Elias Lindholm off injured reserve and placed defenseman Charlie McAvoy on injured reserve, retroactive to Nov. 15.

Lindholm had been out of the lineup since Oct. 30 due to a lower-body injury, but did practice in full on Saturday. Despite him practicing in full, Bruins head coach Marco Sturm wasn’t committed to the forward playing on Sunday.

“Doesn’t mean anything yet,” Sturm said after practice on Saturday. “We’ll see, still going day by day. See how he feels today, see how he feels tomorrow, and kind of go from there.”

With Lindholm being activated from injured reserve, it gives him the chance to return to the lineup on Sunday. This season, he has four goals and five assists for nine points in 13 games.

As for McAvoy, he’s out of the lineup for the foreseeable future after undergoing facial surgery. The Bruins’ star defenseman was hit in the face by a slap shot a week ago.

“He’s doing good. He’s recovering right now at home, and we still don’t know how long he’s going to be out for,” Sturm said on Wednesday about McAvoy.

McAvoy has recorded 0 goals and 14 assists in 19 games this season.

Boston will play the Sharks at 8 p.m. ET on Sunday. The Bruins enter play with a record of 13-10-0.
