17yo Man United prodigy earns senior national team call-up after stunning rise at Carrington
Manchester United Academy has a great history of nurturing young superstars.
One of the latest names turning heads is James Overy.
The 17-year-old talent has earned a call-up for the Australia senior team for the November international break.
It is a remarkable achievement for someone his age.
Australia are set to clash with Venezuela and Colombia.
The door to the senior team opened after his impressive performances for Australia at the Under-20 World Cup in Chile last month.
He has also represented Scotland at youth level.
Overy is a right-back by trade who moved to Carrington from Newton Abbot Spurs in 2024.
He featured for his hometown club in a pre-season friendly against West Ham United at the age of just fifteen.
He has been part of a few first-team training sessions under United head coach Ruben Amorim.
Overy is supremely talented and is highly rated at the academy set-up.
His progress has been rewarded with appearances for the Under-21s.
He recently started for the United U-21s in their 2-0 victory against Rochdale in the National League Cup.
Overy is still very young and will have to develop his game awareness.
Right-back is one of the toughest positions in modern football, a role demanding equal excellence in both defence and attack.
The teenager has time on his side and Carrington will offer the perfect environment for him to sharpen his skills and grow.
If he can continue his progress, Amorim may give him a chance to prove his worth next pre-season.
For now, Overy will turn his attention to the Socceroos and will hope to make his senior bow.
