Marco Sturm Believes Bruins’ Comeback Win Shows Team’s True ‘Character’

The Boston Bruins have won four straight games after a comeback win over the New York Islanders on Tuesday.

Boston trailed 2-1 midway through the second period and 3-2 early into the third period, before Marat Khusnutdinov tied the game with less than five minutes to go.

The Bruins then earned a shootout win over the Islanders. Although Boston trailed the Islanders multiple times, Bruins head coach Marco Sturm is pleased the team never gave up.

“It just shows the character in our room,” Sturm said postgame on Tuesday. “I think overall we had a good feeling today, even after they scored. We made a few changes, but I think the bench was good. The guys were good.

“We had plenty of opportunities, but we also knew we were making more mistakes. We end up short and we made some mistakes, unfortunately, but I’m glad we came back and won the game in a shootout.”

The Bruins were led by Khusnutdinov, who also scored the lone goal in the shootout.

“I just go with my gut,” Sturm said about picking Khusnutdinov to go in the shootout. “He was actually pretty funny. He looked at me like, ‘Me?’ I said, ‘Yeah.'”

With Elias Lindholm out with an injury, Khusnutdinov has gotten the chance to play on the top line and has made the most of the opportunity.

Boston is now 8-7-0 and in third place in the Atlantic Division. The Bruins will look to extend their win streak to five games when they host the Ottawa Senators on Thursday.
