Insider Reveals Position Groups Patriots Are Targeting At Trade Deadline
The NFL trade deadline is on Tuesday, and the Patriots might be interested in bolstering several of their position groups.
According to Andrew Callahan of the Boston Herald, New England is seeking to strengthen its roster in key areas without sacrificing significant assets.
“Running backs, edge defenders, that’s who they want,” Callahan said on Monday, via Patriots on CLNS. “Lower-level deals are what they are chasing. And they are really not in a rush. They look at this as year one.”
New England is currently navigating a challenging situation due to its impressive start to the season. The Patriots sit atop the AFC East with a 7-2 record, but they are just a year removed from winning four games.
The Patriots didn’t address every need during the offseason and will need to hold on to their valuable draft picks to fill those gaps in the coming years.
New England should be cautious about trading away high draft capital for a potential rental player who may not contribute in the long run, as this could hinder its rebuilding process.
The Patriots need to focus on winning both now and in the next two-to-three years. This likely means trading away some of their Day 3 picks to acquire valuable depth players while still retaining enough high-value picks to draft essential starters for the future.
