De Rossi leads Genoa shortlist after Vieira sacking
The Grifone are due to take on Sassuolo in Serie A, and have caretaker managers in place (Roberto Murgita and Domenico Criscito), but Genoa’s decision over a new, permanent head coach is starting to become clear, regardless of their important league match at 17.30 GMT.
The situation could still change: That is football, but all indications point to De Rossi as things stand.
Yesterday’s rumours from La Repubblica, which mentioned an imminent agreement with the Roma legend, have been confirmed. He is now leading candidate to take over from Vieira, overtaking Paolo Vanoli on Genoa’s wishlist.
As SportItalia reported, De Rossi had recently asked his former teammate Leandro Paredes for tickets to watch the Superclásico between Boca Juniors and River Plate in Buenos Aires.
The 42-year-old ended his career with Boca Juniors, is a big fan of Argentine football, and had considered making a quick trip over to South America to watch Sunday’s game at the Bombonera.
The latest news, however, is that De Rossi has since cancelled that trip, likely due to potential developments in Genoa.
