Mookie Betts Makes Brutal Admission After World Series Loss

Mookie Betts and the Los Angeles Dodgers have their backs against the wall after another World Series power outage.

The Dodgers are down 3-2 following Wednesday night’s 6-1 loss to the Toronto Blue Jays. They’ll need to win both games at the Rogers Centre to save the series and secure their second straight championship.

Betts gave a harsh assessment of his Fall Classic performance after Game 5, via Fox Sports.

“I don’t want to speak on anybody else,” Betts told reporters. “But for me, personally, I’ve just been terrible.”

Betts is 3-for-23 with three walks and zero extra-base hits in the World Series, and the former Boston Red Sox Star has yet to go deep this postseason. The recently named 2025 Roberto Clemente Award winner has a .648 postseason OPS while batting between Shohei Ohtani and Freddie Freeman.

The 33-year-old’s struggles emboldened Toronto to intentionally walk Ohtani four times during Tuesday’s 18-inning marathon. Betts couldn’t take advantage, going 1-for-8 with a walk in a 6-5 win.

The Dodgers have responded by scoring three combined runs in consecutive losses. After leading the National League in OPS during the regular season, they’ve plated 17 runs in five lethargic World Series games.

“I wish it was from lack of effort,” Betts said of his ill-timed slump. “I really do, but it’s not. So I don’t have any answers.”

Betts hasn’t looked like the former MVP who led the Red Sox to a 2018 championship before winning two more titles with the Dodgers. The eight-time All-Star batted .290/.387/.565 with four home runs last postseason.

Time is running out for Betts and the Dodgers to find their footing. A must-win Game 6 takes place Friday at 8 p.m. ET.
