Queen's Park 2 QOS 0 - Youth Cup progress

QUEEN’S PARK are into the last 32 of the Youth Scottish Cup after a 2-0 win over Queen of the South at Lochinch.

The under-18s competition meant there was plenty of exposure for the Spiders’ under-17s squad – supplemented with younger members of the under-19s, plus first-team player Cole Burke.

And Charley King’s side did all they had to do to seal a spot in the next round.

Cole Goldie scored a double – a first-half penalty then knocking in a clever cut-back from Kyle Rodger after the break – but the Wee Spiders could have had a few more after having the better of the 90 minutes under the Friday night floodlights.

They now await the fourth round draw and tie which will be played on November 21.

Contented coach King said: “I felt we were comfortable and dominated a lot of the ball. QOS were a threat on the counter attack but I’m satisfied with the win. We could have made it a bit easier for ourselves by making and taking more chances given the amount of possession we had in the game.

“It’s obviously good to get into the next round.

“Of the 18 players we had in the squad, 14 or the 18 can still play u18 next season. We are potentially the youngest squad in the competition and that will bring a challenge in itself physically.

“QOS were a bit bigger, and older, than us and we know in the next rounds it will get tough for us but it will be a good experience and test for the boys and we are hoping to progress further obviously depending on the luck of the draw.”
