Marco Sturm Sends Clear Message To Bruins After Blowout Loss
Boston Bruins head coach Marco Sturm sent a clear message to his team after a blowout loss to the Ottawa Senators on 7-2 on Monday.
The Bruins entered the game coming off a big upset win over the Colorado Avalanche at home. Boston scored the first goal of the game before allowing seven straight en route to the blowout loss.
Following the loss, Sturm spoke on the NESN broadcast and sent a clear message to his team.
“You either buy in or not,” Sturm said, as seen on the NESN’s broadcast. “That’s the difference. If you look at the Ottawa team, they do it, and we did not. That’s the game.”
In the loss, the Bruins took five penalties, as the Senators went four-for-five on the power play.
Although the penalty kill struggled, Strum blamed the lack of discipline.
“I think finally it caught up to us a little bit; we can’t take five penalties every night,” Sturm said. “It’s going to be hard on our (penalty) killers. We knew they had a really good faceoff centerman lining up every time. They won their faceoffs really clean, and we didn’t do a good job.”
Luckily for Boston, the Bruins will get a chance right away to get back on track. Boston will host the New York Islanders on Tuesday, and Sturm expects the team to be much better.
“That’s the good thing, I guess,” Sturm concluded. “You don’t have time to really think about that one. You’ve got to put that one away and show some life tomorrow, especially at home.”
