Patriots’ Drake Maye Shares Fun Moment With Tom Brady, Rob Gronkowski
Before leading the New England Patriots to their fifth straight win, Drake Maye participated in a cool interaction with two franchise icons.
Earlier this season, Tom Brady ribbed Rob Gronkowski by calling Hunter Henry his favorite Patriots tight end of all time. Gronkowski got payback on his longtime teammate in a “Fox NFL Sunday” segment.
While hanging out with Maye on the Gillette Stadium field, Gronkowski FaceTimed Brady to make the legendary quarterback jealous.
“Let’s FaceTime my old quarterback — my old favorite quarterback,” Gronkowski told Maye. “I just want to let him know that I’m with my new favorite quarterback … I got to balance it out now. I got to get him back.”
Gronkowski told a skeptical Brady that he was doing weekend preparation and interviews for the Fox pre-game show. Brady joked that the tight end sounded more like a quarterback before Gronkowski introduced Maye.
“I’m actually with my new favorite quarterback of the New England Patriots,” Gronkowski told Brady. “He’s by far just my favorite. Like, through the roof.”
The humble Maye wouldn’t play along and take any shots at the seven-time Super Bowl champion.
“I know he’s lying,” Maye said to Brady through laughter.
“Cheating on me?” Brady asked Gronkowski. “That’s not cool.”
Gronkowski joked that he would have recorded 2,000 more yards if Brady had Maye’s “beautiful deep ball.” That led Brady also to praise New England’s second-year star.
“I wish I had a lot of things that these guys have,” Brady said. “I might have made a decent career myself if I could do some of the things that kid can do.”
Brady also playfully teased a comeback if Maye keeps showing him up. That was before the 23-year-old led the Patriots to a 32-13 win over the Cleveland Browns with 282 passing yards, 50 rushing yards and three touchdowns.
