Bruins, Celtics Take Part In Ultra Rare Major Sports Leagues Event

The Boston Red Sox’s season has been over for weeks and the New England Patriots have Monday off, after winning their fifth straight on Sunday vs. the Cleveland Browns.

The Boston Bruins and Boston Celtics are both in action on Monday night, however, and will take part in the 32nd ever “Sports Equinox.”

The rare event occurs when MLB, the NBA, NFL and NHL all have games on the same day.

This typically happens in October, when the NBA and NHL are in the early stages of their regular seasons, the NFL is in the thick of their season and MLB is in the middle of the World Series.

According to Sports Reference, the first “Sports Equinox” occurred on Oct. 17, 1971 and then there were no events from 1985 to 2001 and just two of them from 1981 to 2008. The equinoxes have picked up in recent years, however, as Monday will be the eighth one since Oct. 20, 2022.

The last one came on Oct. 28, 2024.

The Bruins are one of just four NHL teams on the docket on Monday, as they take on the Ottawa Senators on the road at 7:30 p.m. ET.

There are 11 NBA contests on Monday night, including the New Orleans Pelicans hosting the Celtics at 8 p.m. ET.
