Avalanche Star Credits Jeremy Swayman For Bruins Upset Win
The Boston Bruins scored an upset win over the Colorado Avalanche on Saturday, and a key reason why was Jeremy Swayman.
Boston entered the home game on a six-game losing streak and was the underdog. Yet, the Bruins led 2-1 after the first period and 3-1 after the second period as Swayman was stellar.
The Bruins’ star goalie stopped 29 of the 31 shots he faced, and Avalanche star Nathan MacKinnon believes Swayman was the reason Boston won.
“I thought we played well,” MacKinnon said, as seen on NESN’s postgame coverage. “It’s just unfortunate we couldn’t put it away early. We had a lot of looks, a lot of chances, and we were dominating, but let them back in it.
“They held it down the second half of the game, but the first half of the game we had chances to get a good lead. … I thought we really outplayed them, honestly. Swayman had a night.”
Swayman, meanwhile, was ecstatic for the win, and he believes the upset win over the Avalanche can give the Bruins plenty of confidence and momentum going forward.
“It’s the best thing ever,” Swayman said. “It’s a momentum shifter in a game when guys are sacrificing their bodies for the greater good of the team. That’s important for us and gives us a ton of momentum moving forward, and I’m really thankful to have these guys in front of me.”
Boston is now 4-6 on the season and will return to the ice on Monday on the road against the Ottawa Senators.
