Aston Villa team news as Unai Emery makes TWO changes for Premier League clash against Manchester City

0 8

Manager Unai Emery has named his team for Aston Villa’s Premier League match against Manchester City this afternoon.

Villa have made two changes from the starting eleven that kicked off the victory against Tottenham Hotspur a week ago, with Emi Buendía getting the nod ahead of Evann Guessand and Ollie Watkins retaining his spot up front after returning to the line-up against Go Ahead Eagles on Thursday.

Ezri Konsa and Matty Cash are back in the team after being named as substitutes in Deventer, while Lucas Digne returns after missing out in the Europa League due to the gash on his ankle after a challenge with Spurs defender Kevin Danso last weekend.

John McGinn starts as captain and will likely tuck in to support Amadou Onana and Boubacar Kamara as much as he plays higher up with Buendía, Watkins and Morgan Rogers.

Where is Harvey Elliott?

Amid rumours of a return to Liverpool, attacking midfielder Harvey Elliott has been left out of the squad altogether this afternoon.

No doubt there will be clarity on that after the game, either truthful or a little bit naughty, but his absence does nothing whatsoever to indicate his future at Villa is a long or positive one.

You’d better believe I’ll be all over it if that turns out to be the case. It’s bizarre and I don’t like it one bit.

Villa’s attacking unit today will be spearheaded by Watkins with some combination of Rogers, Buendía and McGinn behind him. That would be easy to predict against weaker opposition but there certainly won’t be a fixed front four against City at Villa Park this afternoon.
