Washburn football comes up short in overtime loss
TOPEKA (KSNT)- The Ichabods came up just short on Saturday afternoon.
Washburn battled with Fort Hays State to overtime, losing 13-10 in a defensive battle.
The Ichabods led 10-0 at the half thanks to a first quarter touchdown thanks to a three-yard run from Ky Thomas to get the Ichabods on the board. Washburn capitalized off a interception from Braiden Lagafuaina to the 20-yard line.
Washburn extended its lead to two scored with Aidan Battle's 32-yard field goal early in the second quarter.
Fort Hays State would respond with 10 straight points of its own in the third before a field goal sealed the game in overtime.
Freshman Logan Madden threw for 101 yards and an interception for the Ichabods.
Washburn had 147 yards rushing with Thomas hitting the 100-yard mark on the day finishing with 101.
The Icahbod's defense had a solid day despite the result. Washburn forced four turnovers in the contest,
L.J. Minner Jr. had 11 tackles, including 2.5 for loss and a forced fumble in the loss.
Washburn is back in action next Saturday on the road against Missouri Western.
