Tottenham face competition from Chelsea in race for U20 World Cup star of tomorrow
Tottenham Hotspur have received some bad news in their rumoured pursuit of a Nigerian starlet, who is winning a lot of admirers very quickly.
Tottenham’s head of scouting, Rob Mackenzie, explained recently that Spurs are now prioritising signing readymade players over up-and-coming starlets as they embark on a new era.
However, that does not mean that the Lilywhites are not continuing to look at some of the best emerging talent from around the world, as evidenced by their signing of Kota Takai from the J-League during the summer.
Earlier this month, it emerged that Spurs are big fans of a 19-year-old Nigerian winger who is impressing in Slovak football, but the North London club will face plenty of competition for the teenager.
Chelsea and two others ready to challenge Tottenham for Sani Suleiman
The player in question is Sani Suleiman, who was first spotted by many European clubs during the recent under-20 World Cup, where he was the standout player.
He has been impressing at the Slovak club AS Trencin since the start of this season, and his stock is growing very fast.
This is according to a new update by TEAMtalk, who say that Tottenham Hotspur now face competition for Suleiman as Chelsea have become the latest club to enter the race for his signature.
The report says that Spurs are ‘firmly in the mix’ to sign the winger, but not only do they have to worry about competition from their London rivals, but also from Rangers and Bayer Leverkusen, who have made enquiries about the youngster.
Spurs will not find it easy to sign Sani Suleiman
TEAMtalk reveal that the CIES Football Observatory has now ranked Suleiman as the most complete Under-21 winger in the world, based on their performance metrics.
This has only served to intensify the race for his signature, but signing him from Trencin will not be straightforward.
Although the Nigerian’s current deal only runs until 2026, the Slovak club have an option to extend his contract by a further two years, which puts them in a strong negotiating position.
