Super Bowl Champion Signs Contract, Retires With Patriots

Former NFL defensive tackle Lawrence Guy played with five different teams during his 13-year career.

Guy officially hung up his cleats on Friday, signing a one-day contract and retiring as a member of the New England Patriots.

“Eliot Wolf welcomes DT Lawrence Guy back to Foxboro to sign a ceremonial one-day contract as a Patriot, which Guy says was important to him because this is where he truly grew as a player — and a man off the field. Guy is here with his family,” ESPN’s Mike Reiss posted on Bluesky. “Lawrence Guy holds up his ceremonial one-day contract, standing alongside his daughter Adriana and his father Michael.”

“Congratulations on your retirement and thank you for everything you did for us, @thatLGUY!” the Patriots official X account added.

The 35-year-old was selected in the seventh round of the 2011 NFL Draft by the Green Bay Packers but never played with the organization and was released in October 2012.

Guy then suited up for the Indianapolis Colts (2012-13), then-San Diego Chargers (2013-14) and Baltimore Ravens (2014-16) before signing with New England in March 2017.

One of Guy’s best individual seasons was in 2015 with the Ravens, when he recorded career highs in tackles for loss (eight) and sacks (4.5).

He spent seven years with the Patriots, registering 379 tackles, 37 quarterback hits and 10.5 sacks across 110 regular-season games, while adding 26 tackles, four quarterback hits and 1.5 sacks over eight playoff contests.

Guy earned a Super Bowl ring with New England at the end of its last championship-winning season in 2019. Guy’s best campaign with the Patriots came during the 2019 season when he posted a career-high 61 tackles, as well as 3.0 sacks and the only interception of his career.

He played four games with the Cincinnati Bengals last season, recording two tackles.
