Bruins Star Reveals True Feelings About Horrific Losing Streak

The Boston Bruins are spiraling.

After starting the season 3-0, the Bruins have lost six straight, looking more like the team that finished last in the Atlantic Division last year.

Nothing’s gone right for Boston, which allowed a season-high seven goals in its 7-5 loss to the Anaheim Ducks at home on Thursday. The Bruins have been outscored 28-19 during their skid while enduring four losses by one goal. They’re also tied with the Calgary Flames for the most losses in regulation this season.

Given how last season ended, many Boston players are understandably frustrated with the disappointing start to this season, including star center Morgan Geekie.

While there’s still plenty of hockey left to be played, Geekie acknowledged that it’s hard to feel optimistic right now given how the Bruins are playing.

“It’s tough to be glass half full, to be honest with you. I think everybody’s sick of it in here,” Geekie said after Thursday’s loss. “It can get out of hand pretty quick, and I think that’s what’s going to happen if we don’t turn things around…The reality, I think we saw last year, is what happens when you don’t perform, and that’s the way things seem to be going.”

Geekie has played well with five goals in nine games, tying David Pastrnak for most on the team, so Boston’s slow start isn’t his fault. However, it hasn’t been enough with the defense allowing the third-most goals in the NHL.

There were hopes that a fresh start and a new head coach in Marco Sturm could help the Bruins put last season behind them and turn the page. Unfortunately, however, it seems their struggles have carried over into this year, as they’ve now lost 27 of their last 36 games dating back to last season.

Boston will try to snap its losing streak on Saturday at home against the Colorado Avalanche, who beat the Bruins 4-1 in Denver last Saturday.
