Joe Mazzulla Reacts To Rival’s Reported Offseason Pursuit Of Him

It was reported on Monday that the New York Knicks “did some backchannel exploration to determine if there was any pathway to pursue” Boston Celtics head coach Joe Mazzulla over the offseason.

Mazzulla discussed the matter during a Tuesday interview with Zolak and Bertrand on 98.5 the Sports Hub.

“That never reached me,” Mazzulla said, as transcribed by MassLive’s Brian Robb. “There is only one team that I want to coach: it’s the Boston Celtics. I’m going to be here for however long ownership and the city will have me. There is no other team that I’m coaching, it’s here or I’m going to coach my kid’s soccer team or something like that.”

The Knicks fired Tom Thibodeau as their head coach in early June and eventually hired Mike Brown as his replacement.

The Celtics inked Mazzulla to a multi-year contract extension in August.

The 37-year-old is widely regarded as one of the best coaches in the NBA and will begin his fourth season at the helm on Wednesday night.
