Aston Villa transfer interest ‘sparked’ by veteran La Liga midfielder: report

0 3

Aston Villa have been in contact with La Liga club Getafe about 31-year-old midfielder Luis Milla, according to reports.

Villa have demonstrated their depth in central midfield this season, with Amadou Onana and Youri Tielemans each having a spell on the sidelines and Lamare Bogarde stepping up to add to the options available to manager Unai Emery.

But Villa’s football department, headed by Emery, Damian Vidagany and Roberto Olabe, has reportedly had its collective eye caught by the late La Liga bloomer.

“Luis Milla ‘s name has burst onto the European market,” reports Fichajes. “The Madrid-born midfielder, one of the most solid pillars of José Bordalás’ Getafe side, is experiencing a moment of footballing prominence that hasn’t gone unnoticed.

“His performance has sparked the interest of Unai Emery’s Aston Villa and Diego Simeone’s Atlético de Madrid , two projects with very different objectives, but with one clear coincidence: both are looking for a mastermind for their midfield.”

There’s a leap there in terms of Villa’s requirement for a midfielder but we know very little about Olabe’s brief and remit until his first transfer window as Villa’s president of football operations.

Milla’s contract expires in 2027. Depending on whether Villa or anyone else has a particular role in mind, he could represent a potential bargain for a buying club.

“Aston Villa have been tracking Luis Milla for months,” Fichajes claims.

“Unai Emery, a connoisseur of Spanish talent, believes the Getafe midfielder would be a perfect fit for his plan to strengthen the English team’s core.

“In the Premier League , where the pace and physical demands are at their highest, Milla’s profile – with experience, expertise, and character – is a perfect fit.

‘Control, distribution and balance’

“The Birmingham club is looking for a player who provides control, distribution, and balance, and the Madrid native fits all of those requirements. Villa’s management sees him as a real opportunity to make a qualitative leap in midfield, especially if they can maintain their current status as a competitive team in Europe.”

Milla seems an unlikely target as it stands. Villa started their last Premier League fixture with Onana in midfield with Boubacar Kamara and we’ve already seen Bogarde, Tielemans, Ross Barkley and John McGinn play in central midfield this season.

Villa will certainly be open to bringing in additional talent in the double pivot roles but it seems more likely that any players fulfilling that purpose will be signed with a view to succeeding the likes of Tielemans, Barkley and McGinn in the long run.

At 31 years of age, Milla is not that player. He is a former Atlético junior but has taken his time reaching his current level. The ex-Tenerife and Granada midfielder spent years at second-tier clubs but has now played more league matches in the top division than the second.
