Man United Player Ratings vs Liverpool: Two stars get 9/10s but one 4/10 will still worry Amorim
Manchester United claimed a historic 2-1 victory over Liverpool at Anfield in the Premier League on Sunday.
The visitors enjoyed an electric start, with Bryan Mbeumo finishing brilliantly from the right to give United an early lead.
Liverpool responded with a warning as Cody Gakpo rattled the post, while captain Bruno Fernandes also struck the woodwork.
Mason Mount came close with a tame effort from close range but failed to convert.
The drama continued after the break, with Gakpo hitting the post once again, only to finally find the net after Arne Slot threw the kitchen sink.
The moment of the night came from Harry Maguire, who rose highest to meet a pinpoint Bruno Fernandes cross and head home the match-winner, silencing the Anfield crowd in spectacular fashion.
Player Ratings
Senne Lammens – 7/10
Lammens stuck out a firm boot to make a smart block and deny Isak in the first half.
He could do little to prevent Liverpool’s goal, but showed composure and alertness throughout.
Matthijs de Ligt – 7/10
Another stellar display from De Ligt, who has been sensational this season. He had very few touches but was positionally excellent throughout.
Harry Maguire – 9/10
Give Harry Maguire a statue. The England international was dominant in the air and emphatically headed to the bottom-left corner to write his name in history books.
Luke Shaw – 7/10
Held back more than Amorim might prefer from his left centre-back but made a couple of crucial interceptions.
Diogo Dalot – 6/10
Misfired a shot on one occasion, but held his own defensively against the threat of Salah.
Amad Diallo – 8/10
Diallo was a constant menace from the right wing-back position, linking up superbly with Mbeumo. He picked up a yellow card due to brainless officiating from Michael Oliver.
Casemiro – 6/10
A solid outing for the Brazilian. He won five duels before picking up a booking for a tactical foul on Mohamed Salah.
Bruno Fernandes – 7/10
The Portuguese midfielder played a superb pass to Diallo in the build-up to Mbeumo’s opener but should have scored after a cutback from the Ivorian.
He also gifted possession away cheaply several times in the second half and was taken off late in the game. Awarded with an assist for Maguire’s header.
Mason Mount – 5/10
Giorgi Mamardashvili palmed the ball into Mount’s path, but the midfielder could only flick it over the crossbar.
Bryan Mbeumo – 9/10
Mbeumo has been the best United player this season.
He brilliantly took his goal, showing mental toughness to pick himself up from the ground and then making a superb run to net the equaliser.
Matheus Cunha – 7/10
Cunha gains an extra point for his tireless work ethic and clever game management in injury time, smartly shielding the ball and winning crucial fouls to help run down the clock.
Substitutions
Benjamin Sesko – 5/10
He looked overwhelmed with the occasion.
Patrick Dorgu – 5/10
The Dane kept Gakpo onside for his strike.
Manuel Ugarte – 4/10
A clear downgrade on Casemiro, struggled to impose himself and offered little defensive stability.
Leny Yoro – NA
Too late to rate.
Kobbie Mainoo – NA
Too late to rate.
