'Outstanding': Manager blown away by 21yo Man United loanee after what he did vs Championship rivals
Manchester United have sent several promising youngsters out on loan this season to gain valuable first-team experience.
Goalkeeper Radek Vitek has emerged as the standout among United’s loanees, producing a string of commanding performances for Bristol City.
The 21-year-old put on another stellar display to guide his side to the 1-0 victory over Norwich City in the Championship on Saturday.
Bristol City manager Gerhard Struber lauded Vitek for his sublime contributions since joining the club in the summer.
He said after the game (via bristolpost.co.uk): “Very impressed, very impressed, and sometimes even a little bit surprised. He’s 21 years old, and he looks like an outstanding, experienced Championship goalkeeper.”
“In this direction, he’s highly talented – I’ve told you this many times – high potential, and today, again, we can see the consistency in his performances. This makes him very, very interesting for sure.”
The Robins climbed up to seventh place with the narrow win over the Canaries.
The result also marked Vitek’s fourth clean sheet of the Championship this season, putting him second behind Coventry City’s Carl Rushworth (six).
The Man United loanee made four saves against Norwich and completed 12 recoveries to bag the Man of the Match award.
His first stop was routine, but he showed outstanding anticipation by rushing off his line to snuff out a dangerous long ball in the first half.
The Canaries came close to finding an equaliser through a late cutback, but Vitek reacted sharply once again to pull off a powerful save.
The towering Czech capped his performance with a world-class save in the dying minutes, diving low to his right to preserve both the lead and his clean sheet.
We believe Vitek deserves to be in the United first team next season and compete with Senne Lammens for the number one spot.
