Gloucester City 3-2 Poole Town – Match Report
The Dolphins were beaten 3-2 away from home against Gloucester City on Saturday afternoon.
Kris Campbell returned to the starting lineup whilst Ik Hill dropped to the bench for the top of the table clash between second and third.
The game got underway with an energetic start as both sides looking to open the scoring early on.
Poole Town were awarded a penalty within six minutes as Shaquille Gwengwe was brought down inside the area with the referee pointing to the spot.
Gwengwe stepped up from the spot and despite the goalkeeper’s best efforts, he converted to give Joe Lea and Pat Suraci’s side a 1-0 lead.
Gloucester responded less than ten minutes later as Joe Hanks fired past Adam Parkes in goal to draw the game back to level terms.
Only two minutes later on the 16th minute, Gloucester took the lead in this one, ex-Newport player Aaron Wildig smashed it home to give the home side a 2-1 lead at TigerTurf Stadium.
Gloucester pushed on in search of a third, with the Dolphins remaining resolute and looking dangerous when on the front foot.
The first half came to a close with the hosts in the commanding position despite the Dolphins early lead.
The second 45 got underway in similar fashion, but it was Gloucester who found the back of the net for their third through King Baidoo who slotted past Parkes on the 58th minute.
Poole fought back and dominated the last twenty minutes; Henry Spalding found the back of the net leaving it at 3-2 with eight minutes to go.
The Dolphins pushed on in search of a late equaliser, and with five additional minutes it seemed like it might fall for Poole, but the referee brought proceedings to a close with Gloucester taking all three points leaving Poole in 3rd ahead of Wednesday’s trip to Taunton.
