Former £22m Tottenham player claims he was not given a fair chance in North London
A player who departed Tottenham in the summer transfer window has now claimed that he was not given enough opportunities to showcase what he can do for the North London club.
Tottenham had a busy transfer window, with seven new players coming through the door and a few exiting the club.
The jury is still out on whether this Spurs squad is stronger than the one last season, mainly because the Lilywhites lost plenty of goals due to Heung-min Son’s departure.
However, in fairness, new signing Xavi Simons is only now starting to find his feet, while Randal Kolo Muani is yet to make his Premier League debut due to his injury.
Bryan Gil opens up about Tottenham transfer decision
Another player Spurs let go late in the transfer window is Bryan Gil, who completed a permanent move to Girona on the back of his successful loan spell at the club last season.
The Spain international has now said that he barely got any opportunities to showcase his skills in the Premier League and admitted that he has now gotten his rhythm and confidence back as he is playing for a manager who trusts him.
Gil told Cadena Ser: “In England, I lacked opportunities. I was there for four years, and I could only start in six or seven games. After so many loans, it was so important to be at a club like Girona that bets on me and has this stability.
“I am in top form and getting into the rhythm of the game. At Girona, there is a team with a desire to grow, very young and very hardworking, and Míchel’s idea of the game is what made me decide to come here.”
Was Bryan Gil unfairly treated at Spurs?
The Spaniard is clearly delighted that his Tottenham nightmare is finally over, with the winger leaving the Lilywhites after making just 11 Premier League appearances for the club across four years.
He is certainly justified in feeling that he did not get enough chances to show that he is good enough to make it to England, despite showing glimpses of his quality when opportunities did come his way.
However, despite the way he was treated at N17, Gil sent a classy message, thanking Tottenham after completing the permanent switch to the Estadi Montilivi, admitting that he will always wish the best for the North London club in the future.
