Why Patriots Writer Thinks Team Shouldn’t Trade For WR

As the NFL’s Nov. 4 trade deadline approaches, the New England Patriots can go in a handful of different directions.

The Patriots should consider improving their offense, but according to Boston Sports Journal’s Greg A. Bedard, they don’t urgently need a receiver.

“Are you looking at this team and saying they’re one player away in their passing offense from being a contender?” Bedard said on Thursday. “I would say that’s the best part of the team right now with Drake Maye.”

Stefon Diggs and Kayshon Boutte have led New England’s receiving corps, which has performed well. Together, they’ve notched up 50 receptions for 688 yards, scoring three touchdowns.

Bedard believes the Patriots should focus on acquiring a running back or someone who can bolster the running game, rather than targeting a receiver.

“What about running the ball, you know, in the wintertime,” Bedard added. “If the Patriots don’t get their running game going, then they are in trouble. Do you think about adding a left guard?”

New England’s running game has struggled this season, averaging just 91.5 yards per game. With backup running back Antonio Gibson sidelined for the remainder of the season due to a torn ACL, the team would be wise to bring in another experienced back.
