Journalist reveals if Tottenham are contenders for striker with 38 goals in 54 appearances
Journalist Dean Jones has now revealed if a January switch to Tottenham is on the cards for former Thomas Frank player, Ivan Toney.
Spurs have still not found a replacement for Harry Kane, nearly two-and-a-half years since his departure to Bayern Munich.
Many are still not convinced by Richarlison owing to his lack of consistency, while Dominic Solanke is yet to live up to his big price tag.
Tottenham Hotspur fans will be hoping Randal Kolo Muani may be the answer for their woes upfront, but they do not have a permanent option to buy the on-loan Paris Saint-Germain man.
There have been suggestions that Spurs could look to bring back Ivan Toney to the club, and a journalist has now shed light on whether a January move for the former Brentford man would be feasible.
Is Tottenham a realistic destination for Ivan Toney?
Since his £40m switch to Saudi Pro League club Al-Ahli in 2024, Toney has scored 38 goals and provided seven assists in 54 appearances for his club.
The England international has fired Al-Ahli to the AFC Champions League Elite and Saudi Super Cup titles, but there have been rumours over recent days that a return to the Premier League may be on the cards for Toney (talkSPORT).
Dean Jones has now poured cold water on those suggestions, revealing that Tottenham are not actively looking to sign the 29-year-old in the upcoming transfer window.
The journalist told TEAMtalk: “There is no genuine sign of Toney moving back to the Premier League at the moment, but it is interesting that noises are starting to be made around him.
“There have been some whispers about him going to Spurs. Obviously, there is the Thomas Frank link from Brentford, but I do not get the impression there is too much in it.
“It’s not one that I have heard Spurs seriously looking at for now, but we will know for sure soon once they outline the initial target list for the new year. I personally think there are players they will look to before Toney.
“Chelsea are linked too, and I do think that striker is a position the Blues are looking at for 2026, but I would be surprised if this is what they go for.”
Spurs are plotting a move for a Spanish international striker
The Lilywhites may not be actively plotting a move for Toney, but according to recent reports, they do have their eye on a prolific Porto striker.
It has been revealed that Tottenham have been impressed by Samu Aghehowa’s performances and are considering a move for him in January.
According to updates over recent days, Spurs face competition from Chelsea and Newcastle for Aghehowa, who has a release clause of £86m in his contract at Porto.
