College Football Head Coach Fired After 0-7 Start
One college football program has seen enough of its head coach after an 0-7 start to the 2025 season.
Oregon State has fired head coach Trent Bray, according to numerous reports Sunday. ESPN's Pete Thamel was the first to break the news.
Bray went 5-7 in 2024, his first season in charge of the Beavers. However, with the team 0-7 this fall and losing by an average of 17.9 points per game, the Oregon State administration elected to pull the plug.
"My expectations for our program are high, and right now, we are not meeting them," Oregon State AD Scott Barnes said in a statement last week.
The Beavers, who are one of only two teams remaining in the PAC-12, along with Washington State, lost 39-14 to Wake Forest on Saturday.
End of line for beloved OSU alum
While Bray's overall performance may have merited a dismissal, it doesn't mean it's totally welcome news for the Oregon State fanbase.
Bray is a former Beaver, a standout linebacker for the program from 2002 to 2005. He began his coaching career as a graduate assistant at Arizona State in 2008 and eventually returned to his alma mater in 2012 as a grad assistant and linebackers coach.
Bray spent three years at OSU before moving on to Nebraska from 2015-17. He later came back to Corvallis as a linebackers coach in 2018, holding the position through the 2021 season before being promoted to defensive coordinator in 2022.
After calling the defense for two years and helping Oregon State go 18-8 with a pair of bowl appearances, Bray took over the program when Jonathan Smith left for Michigan State during the 2024 offseason.
He now joins the list of in-season college football firings, which also includes DeShaun Foster (UCLA), Mike Gundy (Oklahoma State), Brent Pry (Virginia Tech) and Sam Pittman (Arkansas).
