Watch Mike Vrabel’s Fiery Locker Room Speech After Patriots’ Win Over Bills
Mike Vrabel earned an early signature win by leading the New England Patriots to a monumental 23-20 road upset over the Buffalo Bills on Sunday night.
The Patriots posted footage of Vrabel addressing his team after the Week 5 triumph. Some observers may not have expected New England to take down the NFL’s last remaining undefeated team, but Vrabel told his squad he believed they could defeat their AFC East rivals at Orchard Park.
“I’m happy for you. It’s you. It’s the players,” Vrabel said. “Fellas, you guys go out there and do the (expletive). There’s so much we can do to improve. We talked about taking the next step, and they were in the way. And we took the next step, but I’m not surprised. I want you to understand that—I’m not surprised at all.”
The head coach awarded game balls to two highly deserving players. Stefon Diggs, who corralled 10 catches for 146 yards, shouted in delight after receiving his game ball. Vrabel also singled out rookie kicker Andy Borregales, who converted a game-winning 53-yard field goal in the game’s closing minute.
Vrabel preached ball security and continuing to establish their brand of football.
“Fellas, I just got to keep reminding you every day we come to work what you’re capable of if we just work a little bit, and we focus on our identity and we start protecting this (expletive) thing,” Vrabel said. “Now we need each other protecting it every single day. Practice our identity every single day.”
The Patriots are already one victory away from matching last season’s win total, and they can extend their winning streak with a favorable October schedule against the New Orleans Saints, Tennessee Titans and Cleveland Browns. Vrabel was ready to turn the page and sustain their success after the organization’s biggest win in years.
“Nothing’s gonna change,” Vrabel declared. “I promise you, I’m not going to change. We’re getting on the plane. We’re making the corrections—good, bad, ugly—and we’ll give you a plan that you guys believe in. Then we’ll practice it, and then we’ll go win another game.”
