NFL Insider Makes Bold Patriots Playoffs Prediction

The New England Patriots had one of the biggest upsets of the 2025 NFL season in Week 5, edging the Buffalo Bills on Sunday night, 23-20.

New England is now 3-2, just one game behind the Bills in the AFC East and firmly inside the playoff picture.

Head coach Mike Vrabel’s Patriots haven’t made the postseason since the 2021 campaign, but ESPN senior NFL national reporter Dan Graziano believes that the team has a good shot of ending their drought this winter.

Graziano released his weekly overreactions column following the “Sunday Night Football” contest and said that the statement “the Patriots are going to be a playoff team” isn’t an overreaction.

“Don’t look now, but the AFC has some open postseason spots we didn’t necessarily expect it to have,” he wrote. “Baltimore is 1-4 and in massive trouble. Cincinnati is 2-3 and spiraling without injured QB Joe Burrow.  The Chiefs are probably going to be fine, but they’re still just 2-2 heading into Monday night’s game and don’t feel like the sure thing they usually are. The Chargers started out great but have lost both starting tackles to injury and dropped their past two games after a 3-0 start. The Texans are 2-3.”

Graziano added that there are “paths to the playoffs for this Patriots team, and again, winning in Buffalo tells them they can win pretty much anywhere.”

The insider warned fans, “don’t be surprised to see New England still playing in January.”

The Patriots have a soft schedule on paper for the rest of October, as they will play the New Orleans Saints, Tennessee Titans and Cleveland Browns in Weeks 6-8, respectively, all of whom are currently 1-4.
