Ex-Patriots Tackle Joins AFC Team’s Active Roster Before Week 5
Former New England Patriots offensive tackle Trent Brown has a chance to make his NFL return in Week 5 for his first game in over one year.
The Houston Texans signed Brown to their active roster on Friday, two days ahead of the group’s tilt against the Baltimore Ravens.
“Texans are signing veteran offensive tackle Trent Brown from their practice squad to their active roster, per his agent Drew Rosenhaus,” ESPN’s Adam Schefter posted on X.
The 32-year-old spent the first three seasons of his career from 2015-17 with the San Francisco 49ers, before being traded to New England in April 2018.
Brown was part of the Patriots’ Super Bowl LIII-champion team that defeated the Los Angeles Rams before signing a four-year, $66 million contract with the then-Oakland Raiders in March 2019. He played two seasons for the Raiders and earned his lone Pro Bowl honor in 2019 before being reacquired by New England in a trade in March 2021.
Brown signed with the Cincinnati Bengals in March 2024 but played in just three games with the squad before suffering a season-ending torn patellar tendon.
The former seventh-round pick inked a one-year, $3 million deal with the Texans in March and spent the summer on Houston’s active/PUP list while rehabbing from his injury.
Brown was cut by the Texans in late August but re-signed with the club’s practice squad the next day.
