CC Sabathia Trolls Pedro Martinez After Yankees Eliminate Red Sox

The Boston Red Sox and New York Yankees reignited their century-old rivalry this week in the AL Wild Card Series. While the Red Sox have had the upper hand recently, the Yankees prevailed this time around, winning the series 2-1 to eliminate Boston from the postseason.

While the rivalry is still going strong on the field (just ask Cam Schlittler), it’s alive and well off the field as well.

Prior to Thursday’s decisive Game 3 at Yankee Stadium, Red Sox Hall of Famer Pedro Martinez cheered on his former team with an enthusiastic post on social media.

“Let’s beat those Yankees! You know you’ve got this! Show them who’s their daddy!!!” Martinez wrote on X, referencing his famous 2004 quote where he called the Yankees his daddy.

Unfortunately for Martinez, Boston fell 4-0, losing to New York in a postseason series for the first time since 2003.

Fellow Hall of Fame pitcher and former Yankees legend CC Sabathia was quick to troll Martinez on X, replying to his post with a picture of a giant “Who’s Your Daddy!!” banner after New York’s victory.

While Sabathia joined the Yankees after Martinez left Boston, their teams did meet in the 2009 World Series when Martinez was with the Philadelphia Phillies. New York beat Martinez twice during that series, including the decisive Game 6 in the last game of Martinez’s career.

The Red Sox could have used a pitcher of Martinez’s caliber on Thursday, especially with Schlittler pitching the game of his life for the Yankees. However, the three-time Cy Young winner could only watch from afar as Schlittler proved to be Boston’s daddy.
