Sunderland manager confirms his coaching staff 'like' one Man United man, he is back in training
Manchester United are gearing up for a Premier League clash with Sunderland at Old Trafford this Saturday.
The Black Cats have made a flying start to the campaign, sitting fifth in the table with 11 points already on the board.
Sunderland manager Regis Le Bris has admitted that both fans and staff at the club still hold a soft spot for Amad Diallo, who lit up the Stadium of Light during his 2022-23 loan spell.
He said at the pre-match press conference: “Amad was really important here and our coaching staff like him as a person and a player.
“Now, he plays with the opponent and it will be great to say hello, but during the game we will be fully focused.”
Diallo enjoyed a brilliant spell at Sunderland, netting 13 goals and chipping in with three assists across 37 Championship games.
He quickly became a fan favourite as he guided his side to the Championship playoffs.
That breakout season was the springboard that finally earned him a proper shot with the Man United first team.
The Ivorian was the second-best United player last campaign, bagging 16 goal contributions in 26 games.
Diallo has really struggled to find his spark this term.
He has looked lost and weighed down by relentless criticism on social media.
A Man United player must know how to shut out the noise and answer on the pitch.
He was absent from the previous matchday squad due to a tragedy in his family.
The club confirmed that the winger has returned to training this week, alongside forgotten defender Tyrell Malacia.
