Spurs fans left divided at decoration change at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium

0 1

Tottenham supporters have been left divided after noticing a change in decorations at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

Tottenham Hotspur ended their 17-year wait for silverware last season, finally lifting a European trophy after defeating Manchester United in the Europa League final in Bilbao.

It marked a defining moment for the club, a side with a strong European pedigree, having won four continental titles in its history, and now aims to build on that success with the new campaign underway.

The celebrations that followed were unforgettable, with Spurs parading the trophy on an open-top bus as thousands of fans filled the streets to savour a moment that they had longed for so much.

Tottenham fans react as Europa League banner is removed

The Europa League winners’ banner had been hanging prominently outside the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium since May, but it is now being taken down ahead of upcoming events.

News of the removal quickly reached social media, with Tottenham supporters quick to share their reactions.

One Tottenham fan wrote: “Up for a few months then replaced with NFL advertising. Sounds about right.” Another commented: “Well, that f***king sucks.”

Others tried to keep perspective, with one supporter suggesting: “I am fairly certain they are dressing the stadium for that event. I would like to think it will be back up once we return to action after the international break against Villa on the 19th October.”

Some felt it was time to move forward, with one fan posting: “Was good while it lasted, but time for new challenges. We cannot keep going back and especially singing ‘champions of Europe’, because we are not. We are Europa League champions, but time to stop that too. Teams who dwell on the past are generally losers. Have to win more.”

Another Tottenham supporter echoed that sentiment, writing: “Good, I am glad. This club has rested on its laurels far too long. We are in the Champions League now, that is where the concentration should be. Look up, not down or backwards.”

One fan struck a more nostalgic note, stating: “We have legacy and history. We will always have that night in Bilbao.”

Why the banner might return

The Tottenham Hotspur Stadium has become more than just the home of Spurs, as it also hosts several major events, including the NFL’s regular season fixtures.

It appears that the removal of the banner is linked to preparations for an NFL double-header, and once that event concludes, there is every chance that the Europa League tribute will be restored.

For now, Spurs have one more fixture before the international break, after which focus will shift back to their domestic and European campaigns that many fans are rightly eager to embrace.
