Official: Man United duo claim Player and Goal of the Month honours for September

0 4

Manchester United captain Bruno Fernandes and summer signing Benjamin Sesko have both claimed their first major honours of the season at Old Trafford.

The United supporters voted for Fernandes to bag the Player of the Month award for September.

He secured 37% of the fan poll, narrowly pipping wing-back Patrick Dorgu, who finished close behind with 35%.

Sesko took 28% of the votes but still walked away with Goal of the Month recognition.

The 22-year-old netted his maiden United goal in the 3-1 defeat to Brentford last weekend.

After forcing two fine saves from the former Liverpool goalkeeper, he finally smashed home a powerful left-footed strike.

It was a memorable moment for Sesko, though it came in a disappointing defeat to a Brentford side United were expected to beat comfortably.

Fernandes succeeds Bryan Mbeumo, who had taken the Player of the Month award for August.

The skipper scored the opener in United’s 2-1 win over Chelsea earlier in September.

He coolly latched onto a Dorgu pass and slotted past the Chelsea shot-stopper to set the tone.

Fernandes then produced an aggressive, battling display after United were reduced to 10 men just before half-time.

However, the Portuguese star failed to maintain the same level of influence in the other two fixtures of September.

He struggled to make an impact against Manchester City and missed a golden penalty opportunity at the Gtech Community Stadium.

Known for his honesty and strong mentality, Fernandes would likely admit that no player truly deserved the award given United’s poor form in September.

United supporters will be hoping for a turnaround in October, with crucial clashes against Sunderland, Liverpool, and Brighton & Hove Albion on the horizon.
