Aaron Judge Makes Bold Claim About Garrett Crochet After Red Sox-Yankees Game 1
Garrett Crochet delivered an ace performance in his first playoff game for the Red Sox, and in doing so, earned high praise from the best hitter on Earth.
Crochet struck out 11 while allowing one run over 7 2/3 innings in Boston’s dramatic 3-1 Wild Card Series win over the Yankees on Tuesday. The dominant performance helped the Red Sox move to within one game of clinching a matchup with the Toronto Blue Jays in the American League Division Series.
New York superstar Aaron Judge made a bold claim about Crochet during postgame media availability.
“He’s the best pitcher in the game,” Judge told reporters at Yankee Stadium. “He’s gonna work all his pitches, worked a little more off-speed in there early on. We got the Volpe homer, but couldn’t really, when we got guys on, couldn’t do much after that.”
Judge went 1-for-3 against Crochet, including a strikeout in the sixth inning. The star slugger singled off Aroldis Chapman in the ninth, only to watch the Red Sox closer shut the door after loading the bases with zero outs.
Boston and New York will meet Wednesday night at Yankee Stadium for Game 2. First pitch is scheduled for 6:08 p.m. ET.
