Brighton manager breaks silence on Man United speculation with 'accept' remark
Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim is walking a tightrope, with his job hanging by a thread after a disastrous start to the 2025–26 season.
The Red Devils have scraped together just seven points from their opening six Premier League fixtures.
Last season ended in misery with a 15th-place finish, and this term’s woes deepened when they were humiliated by Grimsby Town in the Carabao Cup second round.
Brighton & Hove Albion manager Fabian Hurzeler is one of the few names linked with taking over from Amorim if INEOS decide to pull the trigger.
When asked about the speculation, Hurzeler played it cool, telling Sky Sports that rumours are part of football while insisting his focus remains firmly on Brighton.
He said: “Tough decisions and rumours are always part of this job so you have to accept it, you have to deal with it, but I really want to say that I have a lot of respect for Ruben Amorim so I won’t talk about his job or any rumours that might come.
“Regarding him, I’m really privileged to be a coach for Brighton and Hove Albion, I’m very happy here and we still habe a lot of work to do.”
Hurzeler made history in 2024 by becoming the youngest head coach in Premier League history when he took over at the Seagulls.
The 32-year-old has won 25 out of the 53 games he has managed at Brighton.
His win percentage of 47% is higher than that of Amorim (39%).
Hurzeler has previously managed St. Pauli for close to two years, recording a 65% win percentage.
He is not the only manager who is tipped to be Amorim’s successor.
Crystal Palace head coach Oliver Glasner is also firmly in the conversation after the impressive job he has done with the Eagles.
The Austrian masterminded a 10th-place league finish in his first season at Selhurst Park.
He guided Palace to FA Cup glory and a Community Shield triumph, toppling heavyweights Manchester City and Liverpool along the way.
Glasner has admitted that he follows the rumours surrounding United and has refused to shut down talk of being a candidate.
The Red Devils will face Sunderland on Saturday at Old Trafford.
It is shaping up to be a must-win showdown that could ultimately decide his fate ahead of the upcoming international break.
