Man United receive timely boost as key star returns to training ahead of Sunderland clash
Manchester United have confirmed that forward Amad Diallo and defender Tyrell Malacia have returned to first team training ahead of Saturday’s Premier League clash with Sunderland.
Diallo missed the 3-1 defeat at Brentford last weekend, marking the first time that he had missed a league game this term.
The Ivorian was excused for the trip to the Gtech Community Stadium after losing a family member. He is now back in training with his team-mates, preparing for the crucial clash against Sunderland.
Diallo has only failed to start just one league game this season when named in the matchday squad, underlining the trust manager Ruben Amorim has in him.
However, he has yet the recapture the form that saw him emerge as one United’s best players last season, registering just one assist across all competitions.
Malacia’s return to first-team training follows a report from Dutch journalist Joost Blaauwhof that Amorim is ready to give him a chance to fight his way back into the team.
United were ready to allow him leave in the summer and he was close to joining Spanish side Elche CF but negotiations fell through.
Although he was included in United’s Premier league squad, he had not been training with the first team and even requested to join the U21s training to build his fitness
Malacia faces stiff competition from Patrick Dorgu to be Amorim’s first-choice left wing-back. Dorgu is one of United’s in-form players and was nominated for September’s Player of the Month.
The 26-year-old last featured for United in the Europa League victory at FSCB last January. He spent second half of last season on loan at PSV Eindhoven.
His career at Old Trafford has been underwhelming due to injuries and form, featuring in just 47 games and has has yet to register a goal involvement.
